Anyone gotten bags of say Walking Liberties to sell off?
I notice that a certain vendor has $100 bags of Walking Liberties for roughly melt. Seems like one could perhaps sell some of these off on eBay, and reduce your cost.
Any thoughts? Any ideas what the condition on these guys will be? I guess I assume, picked through and very worn? Thanks. |
Re: Anyone gotten bags of say Walking Liberties to sell off?
To judge from the Walking Libs I have seen in bags of halves, they are likely worn to the point that the dates are barely readable, if at all. The Liberties with light-to-moderate wear have been culled from most bags of 90%.
I don't know what the market for heavily-worn Liberties is like, but there are people out there who love them. I would bet that if they are recognizably Liberties -- instead of slugs -- that they would command a small premium, even if quite worn. |
Re: Anyone gotten bags of say Walking Liberties to sell off?
Those walking Liberties do get more interest than other 90%. A while back I bought a rifle from a gun dealer and asked if he would take silver in payment. He said he'd take silver dollars but settled for WL halves. He preferred them over Franklin or 1964 Kennedy halves even though I pointed out they had more silver.
As things progress (meaning degenerate) more, all this numismatic value will lose interest and intrinsic value will gain interest. Anytime you can buy bags of halves for the same price as quarters and dimes, go for it. Sell or trade off the WL halves and then your average $1000 bags will contain more like 719 ounces of silver. Silver will be selling by the ounce in the next run up, IMO. |

Hmm, I might go for this at some point. I'm just worried if I do get all near dateless, those aren't going to go for any premium on eBay. Then toss in the fees.
Seems like there are usually enough crazy bidders on eBay that I might make a bit and then convert it into more silver. |

Can you post the link to the site selling them?

Re: Anyone gotten bags of say Walking Liberties to sell off?
I bought a full bag of WL halves from them before and they were like any other WL halves I've had. Mostly good with a few pretty slick. Like maybe 10 of them were worn out.
Call them and ask if the .50 bags in the Wholesale lot section is worn out or normal. I doubt they have the time to go through all the stuff that comes in to cherry pick. http://www.apmex.com/Product/9129/10...ty_Halves.aspx |
Re: Anyone gotten bags of say Walking Liberties to sell off?
I think decent quality Walkers will always have a premium to generic silver or more recent silver coins such as the 1964 Kennedy halves. The older things get, the more valuable generally compared to more recent stuff. That's why I'm still kicking myself for not buying Morgan dollars earlier and will pick one up as soon as I get the time to go to the coin shop. There'll always be people like me who want to hold a 100-year old coin, or in the case of Walkers, a beautiful design that they've rarely seen. In my opinion, the walking liberty design is the best ever made--even better than on the $20 gold double eagles. Of course I wouldn't go crazy, but I would pay a small premium.

Walkers are one of my two favorites when it comes to 90%, the other is Merc's. Unlike the many of the other 90% coins people take one look at these older, beautiful designs and automatically assume they must be special and worth a lot of money.
